An AI trading bot for forex is a cBot whose seller says it uses machine learning, a trained model or adaptive filters to shape entries and exits. The label covers very different methods, so the description should explain what the model does and what fixed rules surround it.
A model trained on past prices turns current inputs, such as recent returns or indicator values, into a score that the bot's code converts into orders. Stops, sizing and filters often stay rule-based, and retraining, where offered, changes behaviour, so note which version you tested.
Judge them by behaviour instead: trade frequency, holding time, stop rules, drawdown in tests across calm and volatile years, and the costs assumed. If live statistics are published, compare them with the backtest, because a model tuned too closely to history can weaken on new data.
Overfitting is the usual culprit: a model can learn noise in past data that never repeats, and market regimes shift after training. Costs, spreads and execution on your account also differ from the test, so losses are possible and past results do not carry forward.
Not if the model lives online, because the cloud environment blocks web requests; such a bot has to run locally on a desktop app for Windows or Mac. Local running ends whenever that app is closed, a real limit for a forex strategy meant to cover every session.
