What It Does
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This indicator automatically identifies and marks significant price momentum sequences on your chart, helping you visualize when markets are trending strongly versus moving sideways. It works by analyzing cumulative price movements and only highlights moves that exceed your defined amplitude threshold.
Key Features
Smart Momentum Detection
- Automatic labeling of upward (blue) and downward (red) momentum sequences
- Customizable amplitude threshold measured in basis points - you decide what constitutes a "significant" move
- End-of-sequence markers clearly show when momentum has exhausted (with optional confirmation bars)
Session-Based Analysis
- Up to 3 configurable trading sessions (Asian, London, New York, etc.)
- Automatically resets calculations at session boundaries
- Visual session markers with labels showing your configured times
- GMT offset adjustment to match your local timezone
Advanced Processing Options
- Rolling window mode: Analyze momentum over a fixed lookback period for consistent signals
- Closed bar processing: Option to only calculate on completed candles (no repainting)
- Inactive period filter: Automatically detects when momentum has stalled using a time-based threshold
Real-Time Status Display
- Live position indicator showing current market state:
- "UP SEQUENCE IN PROGRESS"
- "DOWN SEQUENCE IN PROGRESS"
- "END - UP/DOWN SEQUENCE"
- "NEUTRAL"
- Current amplitude reading in basis points
- Customizable colors for each state
- Choose display position (top/bottom/center right)

How It Works (Technical Overview)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The indicator uses a two-pass algorithmic approach:
- Pass 1: Scans price data to identify preliminary momentum sequences based on your amplitude threshold
- Filter Pass: Applies statistical regression (OLS) to refine sequences and remove false signals
Price movements are converted to cumulative log returns (basis points), making the analysis scale-independent and suitable for any instrument or timeframe.
Understanding Amplitude
- 1 bps = 0.01% price movement
- 100 bps = 1% price movement
- 20 bps ≈ 0.2% move (default threshold)
The status display shows current sequence amplitude in real-time, helping you gauge momentum strength before the END signal appears.
Fully Customizable
- Minimum amplitude threshold (in basis points)
- Inactivity timeout (in bars)
- Confirmation candles for sequence ends
- Label placement and colors
- Rolling window size
- Session reset times with GMT offset
- Status display appearance and position
Perfect For
- Traders who want objective, algorithm-based trend identification
- Multi-timeframe analysis (works on any chart period)
- Session-based trading strategies
- Identifying momentum exhaustion points
- Filtering out noise and consolidation periods
No subjectivity. No guesswork. Just clear, automated momentum detection based on your parameters.

Important Usage Guidelines
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Understanding the Algorithm's Design
This indicator uses a forward-looking window to achieve zero-lag labeling of historical momentum sequences. This means it identifies price moves with exceptional accuracy after they've developed, but cannot predict the direction of the current bar in real-time.
The Tradeoff:
- Zero lag + forward-looking = Perfect historical labeling but requires price confirmation
- Lagged + no forward-looking = Real-time signals with delay (controlled by "T Inactive" and "Wait for Confirmation" parameters)
Recommended Best Practices
1. Use Sequence Endpoints as Key Levels
- Treat confirmed momentum endings as high-probability Support and Resistance zones
- These represent points where significant price moves exhausted
- Ideal for planning entries, exits, and stop placements
2. Calibrate Amplitude to Your Market
- Calculate the average volatility of your instrument over your chosen timeframe
- Use this value to set the "Minimum Amplitude" parameter appropriately
- Different instruments and timeframes require different thresholds (e.g., 20 bps for forex majors vs. 50+ bps for volatile pairs)
3. Backtest Before Live Trading
- Test parameter combinations on historical data
- Find the optimal balance between signal frequency and reliability
- Understand how "T Inactive" and "Confirmation Candles" affect your results
- Remember: This is an analytical tool for identifying completed moves, not a predictive signal generator
Bottom Line
This indicator excels at objectively marking where momentum occurred, making it invaluable for post-move analysis, level identification, and understanding market structure. Treat it as a sophisticated measurement tool rather than a real-time entry signal system.
