ADX Trend Strength Indicators for cTrader

The ADX, or Average Directional Index, measures how strong a trend is, not which way it points. It is derived from the gap between the positive and negative directional lines, smoothed over a lookback that commonly defaults to fourteen bars, so it climbs while one side keeps pulling ahead.

The period is the main lever: a shorter lookback reacts sooner but flickers more, while a longer one is steadier and later. Versions may also let you set the smoothing method and a threshold line, often placed around twenty-five, above which a trend is usually treated as established.

Look at what each one draws beyond the main line, such as directional lines, trend colouring or a threshold, and whether it can raise alerts. Then check the version notes and buyer reviews; some ADX tools in cTrader Store are free, and a few paid ones can be tried first.

A high reading shows strength only, because ADX climbs in steep downtrends as well as steep uptrends. Direction has to come from the +DI and -DI lines or from price structure, and since the line is smoothed twice it confirms trends late, so entries based on it can still end in losses.
