Parameter Configuration:
This is where you customize the indicator to your preferences:
- Currency Selection (Crucial):
Currency 1,Currency 2,Currency 3,Currency 4: You must select exactly four unique major currencies from the dropdown lists. The indicator will calculate the relative strength of these four currencies against each other. It is recommended that you place Base currencies above quote currencies in this indicator to ensure you get the arrows displaying the correct directionality.
- Calculation Settings:
Lookback Period: The number of past bars used to calculate the percentage change for each currency pair involved in determining strength. A common value is 14.Smoothing Period: The period for an Exponential Moving Average (EMA) applied to the raw strength lines. Set to 0 for no smoothing (raw strength lines). A small value like 3 or 5 can provide smoother lines.
- Alerts:
Enable Alerts: Master switch to turn all sound alerts ON or OFF.Alert C1/C2 Cross(throughAlert C3/C4 Cross): These six boolean parameters correspond to the crosses between your selected currencies. For example, ifCurrency 1is EUR andCurrency 2is USD, thenAlert C1/C2 Crosscontrols alerts for when the EUR strength line crosses the USD strength line. Check the box to enable alerts for that specific pair's cross.Selected Sound File: Choose your preferred alert sound from the dropdown.- Important Sound Note: For sounds like
Alarm01throughAlarm10,Chimes,Chord,Ding, andNotify, the indicator uses hardcoded paths assuming they are inC:\Windows\Media\(e.g.,C:\Windows\Media\Alarm01.wav,C:\Windows\Media\chimes.wav). Ensure these files exist at that location if you select them. Other sounds in the list might be attempted to be played by filename only, relying on system search paths.

- Arrows:
Enable Arrows: Master switch to turn all on-chart arrows ON or OFF.Arrow C1/C2 Cross(throughArrow C3/C4 Cross): Similar to alerts, enable or disable arrow drawing for specific currency strength crosses.Arrow Offset (Pips): Determines how many pips above a high (for down arrows) or below a low (for up arrows) the arrow will be drawn.Up Arrow Color (Hex)/Down Arrow Color (Hex): Set the color for up and down arrows using hexadecimal color codes. Formats like "AARRGGBB" (Alpha, Red, Green, Blue) or "RRGGBB" are accepted (e.g., "FF00FF00" for fully opaque green, "FF0000" for red).
4. Interpreting the Indicator:
- Strength Lines: The indicator window will display four lines, each representing the relative strength of one of your selected currencies.
- A rising line indicates the corresponding currency is generally strengthening relative to the other three selected currencies.
- A falling line indicates the currency is generally weakening.
- Crosses: The most important signals come from these lines crossing:
- If Currency A's strength line crosses above Currency B's strength line, it suggests Currency A is becoming stronger than Currency B. This could be a bullish signal for the pair A/B (e.g., EUR/USD if EUR strength crosses above USD strength) or bearish for B/A.
- Conversely, if Currency A's line crosses below Currency B's, it suggests Currency A is weakening relative to Currency B.
- Alerts & Arrows: When enabled, sound alerts and on-chart arrows will trigger based on these configured crosses, drawing your attention to these potentially significant shifts in relative strength.
5. Understanding Alert Logic (Key Points):
- No Historical Alerts: The indicator is designed to prevent a flood of alerts from past (historical) crosses when you first load it onto a chart.
- 20-Tick Live Delay: After the indicator has finished processing historical data and starts running on live ticks, there's an additional buffer of 20 ticks before any new alerts will be triggered.
- Recent Crosses Only: Sound alerts will only fire for crosses that occur on one of the last two closed bars. This ensures you are alerted to current, actionable events.
- Arrows, by default, will draw for all detected crosses (including historical ones if
Enable Arrowsfor that pair is on) to provide context.
6. Troubleshooting & Notes:
- Sound Files: For the hardcoded sound paths (Alarm01-10, Chimes, Chord, Ding, Notify), ensure the
.wavfiles exist inC:\Windows\Media\with the exact names (e.g.,Alarm01.wav,chimes.wav). Please note that alerts are hardcoded for Windows devices only. - Unique Currencies: You must select four different currencies in the parameters for the indicator to initialize and calculate correctly.
- Broker Data: The indicator needs access to the necessary currency pair data from your broker to perform its calculations (e.g., if you select AUD, USD, EUR, JPY, it will need data for AUDUSD, AUDEUR, AUDJPY, EURUSD, EURJPY, USDJPY). If your broker doesn't provide one of these pairs, the strength calculation for the involved currencies might be slightly less comprehensive.
By understanding these parameters and how to interpret the output, the RelativeCurrencyStrength Pro indicator can become a valuable asset in your trading toolkit.
